Recycling plays an important role in how we serve Baldwin County, helping us meet the needs of our residents while supporting continued community and economic growth. As new residents, businesses, and industries move into the area, the demand for accessible recycling services continues to grow. We are able to meet these needs by providing curbside programs, convenient drop-off locations, and our CHaRM facilities, offering flexible recycling options that support this growth and strengthen our community infrastructure.
Our curbside recycling program is rolling out across Baldwin County, giving more residents access to a convenient way to recycle right from home. With weekly pickup and a low monthly cost of $10, households can easily participate and make recycling part of their routine. Residents do not have to use our garbage collection service to opt into this program.
Getting started is simple. Sign up for service, and once enrolled, a member of our team will contact you to confirm your pickup day and walk you through the process. Cart delivery typically occurs within one to two weeks, depending on whether your neighborhood is already utilizing curbside recycling in your area.
Our Materials Recovery Facility serves as a central hub accepting materials across Baldwin County and the surrounding region, supporting a broader network of communities beyond our local area. As a one-of-a-kind facility, it is designed to efficiently sort and process recyclable materials at scale, helping ensure they are prepared for reuse and returned to the market.
The MRF currently handles 3,700 tons of material annually with capacity for continued growth, playing a key role in reducing landfill waste, improving recycling efficiency, and strengthening regional sustainability efforts.
Our Centers for Hard-to-Recycle Materials (CHaRMs) make recycling easier by giving residents a convenient place to drop off materials beyond the curbside cart. Whether you do not have curbside recycling service or need to recycle items not accepted in curbside carts, CHaRMs provide an accessible solution across Baldwin County.
With locations in Fairhope and Summerdale, and Orange Beach, we continue expanding recycling access for our community.
From electronics and batteries to paint, household hazardous waste, propane tanks, and lightbulbs, CHaRMs help ensure these materials are collected, handled, and recycled safely and responsibly.
At SWDA, we manage 24 recycling drop-off locations throughout Baldwin County, providing residents with convenient access to recycle the same materials accepted through curbside collection. These sites serve households without curbside service or those who prefer a drop-off option. Hard-to-recycle materials are handled separately through our designated centers.
