LANDFILLS
WASTE DISPOSAL SOLUTIONS
We provide reliable landfill services to safely manage waste. Our facilities are designed and operated in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, helping protect Baldwin County’s environment and natural resources.
We serve both residential and commercial customers through municipal solid waste and construction and demolition (C&D) landfills. Each site is equipped with systems to manage runoff, control gases, and ensure safe, efficient operations.
Our goal is to deliver dependable disposal solutions while supporting long-term sustainability through waste reduction and innovation.
MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE LANDFILL
MAGNOLIA LANDFILL
The Magnolia Landfill is the county’s only municipal solid waste landfill, also known as a sanitary landfill. This facility is designed to handle everyday household waste and general trash from residential and commercial sources, along with approved construction and demolition debris, yard waste, and other non-hazardous materials accepted in accordance with ADEM regulations.
A sanitary landfill is carefully engineered to protect the environment. Waste is compacted and covered daily, and the site includes systems to manage groundwater, control odors, and safely capture and treat gases produced during decomposition.
Fun Fact: The Magnolia Landfill is located along the Alabama Coastal Birding Trail, making it part of a larger network of important habitats for birdwatching and conservation.

How We Protect Our Environment
At SWDA, protecting Baldwin County’s land, water, and communities is built into everything we do. Our landfills are carefully engineered and operated using a combination of advanced systems and natural processes to safely manage waste and reduce environmental impact. By combining engineered systems with natural treatment methods, we are able to safely manage landfill byproducts, protect groundwater, and reduce environmental risk. Every step is designed to ensure responsible, long-term waste management for Baldwin County.
BUILT FOR PROTECTION
We construct our landfills with multiple protective layers, including compacted clay and durable liners, to prevent contamination. Drainage systems capture liquids for treatment, while waste is placed in controlled layers and covered daily to minimize odors, pests, and debris. Once areas reach capacity, they are sealed and stabilized with vegetation to protect the surrounding environment.
MANAGING LIQUIDS SAFELY
We fully contain and treat leachate through a multi-step process designed to meet strict environmental standards. This includes aeration ponds, constructed wetlands that naturally filter contaminants, and holding areas where water is tested before being safely returned to the environment.
REDUCING EMISSIONS
We capture landfill gas and convert it into renewable natural gas (RNG), reducing greenhouse gas emissions while creating a clean, sustainable energy source.
SPECIAL SERVICES
If you need Solid Waste Disposal Authority (SWDA) services for a special event or festival, we offer a straightforward request process. Groups and individuals hosting festivals, fundraising events, or community cleanups can request services such as container delivery, collection, and disposal. To request services, submit a service request as early as possible. Include details like event location, expected attendance, dates, and the type of services needed. After review, you will receive confirmation of approved services and associated costs.
COMPOSTING
Turn Waste Into Something Useful
Composting is a simple way to give organic materials a second life while supporting healthier soil and a more sustainable Baldwin County. When available, compost produced through our operations can be picked up by residents for use in gardening, landscaping, and other projects.
Compost is available at the following locations (when in stock):
- Magnolia Landfill: Mon-Fri: 8 AM – 3:30 PM | Sat: 8 – 11:30 AM
- MacBride Landfill: Mon–Fri: 8 AM – 3:30 PM | Sat: 8 – 11:30 AM
- Bay Minette Transfer Station: Mon–Fri: 7 AM – 3:30 PM | Sat: 8 – 11:30 AM
Composting is $25 per ton with a limit of one ton per customer, per day. A ton of compost is approximately 1.5 cubic yards, which will fit in the bed of a standard pickup truck. Our team will load the compost for you, and trailers are also welcome if you need additional space.
TIPS FOR COMPOSTING PICKUP
Compost may weigh more when wet, especially after rain. For easier handling, we recommend picking up dry compost when possible. Bring a tarp or cover to secure your load for transport
By turning organic materials into usable compost, we help reduce landfill waste while providing a valuable resource back to the community.
